Guide to the Royal Women's Hospital Victoria Patient Records

Listed by Robyn Waymouth, Janet McCalman and Gavan McCarthy
The first midwifery records of the Melbourne Lying-In Hospital are among the Royal Women’s Hospital’s greatest historical treasures. They begin with the first patient, Mrs Kinsman, in August 1856 and are among the oldest surviving systematic records of childbirth in the world. This guide provides access to digital images of the registers to facilitate research of all kinds whether it be of a medical nature or a purely personal enquiry from the general public. This guide will be extended to include information about later patient records as it becomes available. Digital images of the records will also be added as they are made available. [Details]
